Current Arc Information
Arcs
Arcs on Bleach Gotei are a way for us to organize the overarching plot into smaller, more manageable segments with clear narrative goals and themes. As a tool, they allow the characters to more plausibly inhabit a world where lifespans are often greatly elongated as well as focus more on interesting events without cheapening the lulls in action between eras. Each Arc will focus on any number of the existing races in any combination, and thusly the playable characters will be restricted to what we feel is most relevant at the time. A record of past Arcs and a short synopsis of the events that took place can be found further down on this page.
Arc Setting
The year is 1363 and the Black Death has ravaged much of the world, leaving nearly two hundred million dead. Outbreaks still occur, consistently adding to the toll, and another wave of the disease throughout Europe is finally beginning to end.
Death on such an unprecedented scale has left the Shinigami of the Soul Society entirely unable to keep up. Half or more souls find themselves transforming into Hollows, compounding the tragedies within the World of the Living. The increased Hollow activity has led directly to increased losses among the Shinigami, reducing their numbers, and exacerbating the situation further.
Now, with the world still reeling from the Black Death, the Seireitei is all but in tatters. In relation to the number of souls hanging in the ever-delicate Balance, there are fewer Shinigami than there have ever been before. Divisions are perilously understaffed and command structures within the Gotei are strained to their limits. Additionally, Hollow attacks on the Rukongai have become far more common than they ever were before.
Desperate, the attention of the Gotei as a whole fell upon a lone member of the Twelfth Division as news of his creation swept across the Seireitei: the Asauchi. A special kind of blade forged of steel and magic, able to help spur the manifestation of the Zanpakutō; until now left to the mysterious, natural process of the soul This creation arrives at a time when the ideals of the samurai, and many of their practices, have begun to evolve a Gotei already experiencing great change as it welcomed more and more young souls into its ranks to replace those lost on Earth.
Despite the controversy, the needs of the Gotei ultimately outweigh the objections, and the mass forging of Asauchi began, with one given to each student of the Shin'o Academy upon their enrollment. Already, the first graduates of the Academy whose Zanpakutō were awakened by Asauchi have joined the Gotei. Where some see hope, others see a dangerous departure from tradition rooted in wisdom that had already carried the Gotei through a thousand years of challenges and crises.
However, the destiny of the Asauchi and its impact on the Gotei, the Seiretei, and all of Soul Society is not yet set. Nor are the fates of those who once wielded them, the future of a Gotei now populated by young souls more than ever before, and some of the very institutions that stand as the pillars of the Soul Society.
Playable Races
Shinigami. Given the era in which Arc 1 takes place, neither Arrancar nor Quincy really exist in any meaningful way (and as such their existences are unknown to Shinigami on the whole). Both these races and their respective origins will be addressed in future Arcs. Suffice to say, only Shinigami are of any interest to the current stage of the plot.
Typical Powerlevels in this Arc
Captain Commander: ~260
Captain: ~220
Lieutenant: ~180
Third to Fifth Seat: ~140-100
Upper Seats (Sixth to Tenth): ~100-75
Lower Seats (Eleventh to Twentieth): ~75-50
Unseated to Academy Graduates: ~50-25
In Arc 1, we expect player characters to most commonly fall into the range between the Lower Seats and Fourth Seat, though outliers are possible on a case-by-case basis.
