So recently I’ve come to question how I’d like to lay out my milestones. For months Ive had about 3 arcs that lead up to a bankai request planned out, all fitting nicely and such. However recent additions to said arcs have changed their flow, and now I question how well they work now. So Ill lay out the general pace of my three arcs, then explain how I’d like to adjust it, and I would really appreciate input from vets, staff, and milestone n00bs alike.
The Original is:
Arc 1: mostly minor shit, the first 90% is fairly inconsequential and is mostly stuff that will come into post second power arcs. The ground work for his crappy relationship with his ex is laid here. He is very loyal and ambitious in his duties as a shinigami. But in the end, Hanbei ends up getting his ass kicked by a hollow on earth, and ends up left for dead in Hueco Mundo. He is then imprisoned by an Arrancar (Sobek) and tortured, only to be saved by a shinigami, something that he keeps to himself, but also does not know the identity of his captor Arrancar. Upon returning, he realizes he is a broken man, losing a lot of faith in himself and his loyalty to the Seretei, and there is a solo to solidify this and wrap up arc 1.
Arc 2: This begins weeks later, during the events of the Kings Key. Here Hanbei gets repeatedly wrecked, only further hurting his self-esteem and loyalty as a shinigami. After those events play out, he finally decides to request a ‘vacation/retirement’ from Third Division and leave the Seretei entirely. His ex is merely a bad memory during this time. He finds himself falling into drink and women, and soon under the employ of a merchant clan in the Rukon as hired muscle. Here his relationship with his zanpakuto begins to dissolve, eventually leading him to begin a wild goose case for the Arrancar that had tortured him. Through a relationship from the first arc, he earns himself a one way trip to Hueco Mundo, ending his time in Soul Society and general laziness, and towards his ludicrous need for revenge. This arc ends with him stepping through the portal to Hueco Mundo.
Arc 3: the entire first part of the arc consists of him alone in Hueco Mundo, pointlessly fighting and meeting Hollows and Arrancars in search of his previous captor. In a life or death situation, he attempts using bankai, but is unsuccessful, and is severely confused as to why. His hunts are fruitless, and eventually returns to the Seretei in the middle of Obsessions invasion. During the invasion, he almost immediately reunites with his ex, who is soon captured by a quincy he had previously fought, and later escapes with her. Hanbei loses track of them despite his best efforts to do so, and eventually gets tangled up with an extremely powerful variant, only to be saved once again. Following the invasion he focuses on bankai training, which again doesn’t work out for him, and hunting down the quincy to save his girl. Eventually he does so, and in the showdown, it’s a do or die moment for his ex and here we see a bankai request which determines her fate and hanbeis.
Our Options are:
So, my irk is, the second arc now feels too… fillery? I’m thinking of splitting Arc 2 roughly in half, so I end up with two larger milestones instead of three. I think the alternative first arc finale should be him actually leaving the Third post KK, or even him returning to Hueco Mundo. (so arc 1 and some of two, or both arc 1+2). The alternative second arc would still end the same, it would just either begin with him living in rukon, or be only “Arc 3”. (so some of arc 2, and all of arc 3, or just arc 3).
Im torn, plz halp.
