Verbrennung took in a deep breath of what Earth had to offer, the cool night air fighting against the heat of her form. Crickets cried out their nightly song and bats hurried to chomp down on mouthfuls of moths. The Arrancar adjusted the robe she had adorned herself in for the time being, the cream-coloured material blustering against the winds of the country dubbed the United States of America. A young country that varied wildly in its geography depending on how far one travelled. This particular plot of land was graced with snow-tipped mountains and wide valleys. Nothing special, she thought as she sat side-saddle on her broom of a zanpakuto. It simply reminded her of how much she wanted to go back to Germany, but she had been there already. It was time to explore other parts of the Earth.
It was 6 years ago that she had been fundamentally changed as a Hollow-breed and it had opened some doors but closed others for her. She could wander the world to her heart’s content without a worry of regression or hunger, but at what cost, she wondered.
“Arrancar…” She murmured aloud to herself, simply testing the words upon her lips.
This body of hers was like a human female in shape and proportion, yet it had its unnatural oddities to remind Verbrennung and all who could see her that she was not, in fact, human. Stark red eyes set upon black sclera stared down at her charcoal-coloured hands; hands she had never had in all her centuries alive, hands that bore a hole in each palm. Not that she could recall, anyway. She did not mind as she had been a monster for as long as her memory functioned. Still, she had grown quite fond of her wings and talons. That much she would miss.
Verbrennung descended to ground-level once she had reached a little human town, her bare feet planting firmly on the cement. She rested her broomstick against her neck with both arms dangling overtop, akin to stockades. Streetlamps lined the sidewalks, casting their yellow light upon the roads so the humans could still find their way even at night. Verbrennung observed quietly as bugs frenzied about the light bulbs like basic Hollow-breeds to a soul.
The nightlife was plodding in such a small town, but present: the handful of bars being the only establishments with their lights on. Verbrennung wandered closer to peer inside some of the buildings like a bored kid. Human adults cluttered together with drinks in hand, laughing away, human teenagers trying to convince their elders to buy them alcohol.
“What a bore…” She complained aloud, not that anyone could hear her.
Her wanderings took her to the residential portions of the town, rows of mostly dark homes interrupted by the occasional internal flickering of a television set. On she went, her feet slapping against the pavement as she wandered straight down the center of the road.
“Maybe I’ll get to see someone get murdered, pffuh…”
