I know some of you have seen me bragging about my little buddy, but I just remodeled his cage and I figured I would show him off!
This is a full overview of the cage. I put in a new plant or two and added some more bamboo sticks for him to climb around on. That waterfall thing on the left side is new too! Do you see the little guy?
Here's a closer shot of the top section. The idea in designing cages like this is that there should be a gradient of heat and humidity. The top is the hottest/driest. Of course, there should be pockets of humidity, but those will create themselves naturally. You can see his two lights on top plus his little cricket cup.
Even closer now! This is where he normally chills. He's got crickets and a bit of leaf cover, plus all the warmth he would need! I added in that little waterfall device for him to drink from. Chameleons and other arboreal animals tend to drink off of leaves instead of still bodies of water, so they need that movement to trigger their instinct to drink.
This is the lower area. A good amount of sticks in the back for him to hide away from the world. No substrate for him since he's arboreal and won't ever go down there. Instead I installed a screen so the water can drain through and collect in a tub below the cage. Makes my life a lot easier! He usually heads down here to sleep at night, but he still hasn't found a good sleeping place and changes locations every night.
And here's the big guy himself. He use to be real small, but he's grown to be a good and fat derp. His eyes are fascinating to watch. I got lucky and took a good picture of him when he's calm. Normally, he either hides when he sees me or puffs up and tries to be real tough. He's a fuckin cute little asshole.
