Loyalty Above All Else
"You people nowadays throw that word out with such ease and vacuity, it makes me sick, as if it were the village bicycle one may traipse about at their own leisure. Loyalty is a state of being, not a mere word; you are, or you are not- there is no in-between. I was born a loyal vassal of the noble and proud Quincy race; without question, I will do whatever is required for their betterment. My pride and honor simply pales in comparison to the devotion and loyalty to my kin."
Height & Weight At 86 kilograms and 190 centimeters, Haruki physically possesses the qualities expected of a combat fit and ready Quincy. Baring the genes of the larger German breeds, Haruki's body demonstrates that the mixture of bulk and lithe can be an intoxicating combination.
Hair & Eye Colour While most everything about Haruki is decidedly masculine, it would be unjust to say that the Onmyouji doesn't possess any physical traits of the fairer sex. One such example of this androgynous physicality is Haruki's hair. Each raven black lock of hair possesses the telltale signs of delicate care, from base of root all the way down to the tip that impressively reaches his ankles. Significantly shorter bangs hang over the windows of vision, often obscuring his expression from sight. With a good wind or casual brush of fingers these strands allow light to meet the brilliant crystalline blue orbs. Far softer in angle than most other male's eyes, Haruki's eyes speak a saddening tale of life without family. More commonly than not Haruki's eyes are closed or pit upwards so that they might stare into the abyss that rivals their own shade.
Build: While easily distinguishable as a member of the Japanese ethnicity, Haruki possesses physical traits that drastically separate him from the rest of his kin. Birthed from the union of a German and Japanese, it came as little surprise when Haruki ended up being substantially taller than the average member of his gender. Further separating him from the traditional appearance of the Japanese male is his overall body structure which retained much of the sleek and fluid design of the Japanese while subtly altering the muscular structure to resemble the hardy Germans. From shoulder tip to shoulder tip Haruki's chest measures nearly 143 centimeters; over 30 centimeters larger than the average. This bulk steadily tapers off as the journey south begins, slowly trimming off around his armored rib cage before eventually vanishing entirely around his 98 centimeter waist.
In terms of limb arrangement and build, Haruki continues to demonstrate the uniqueness of his genetics. Slim and seemingly frail fingers protrude from the bulk of his palm, ending in violet painted nails that extend a quarter inch beyond the tip. While commonly kept from view due to his choice of garments, Haruki's forearms and biceps are adequately defined in moderate layers of muscle whom's milk white skin has been tattooed. This layering of muscle is lean enough to allow Haruki to place ample force behind his blows, but trimmed enough to allow precisely executed maneuvers of speed and agility. Much the same can be said for his legs, as they too possess a streamlined design but bare sufficient muscling to produce inhuman acts of speed.
Haruki's body presents his opponent with all the information pertaining to his style of combat. His overall slender design hints at his natural grace, speed and agility while the evident existence of the muscles provide proof of his physical strength.
Clothing: Haruki's common choice of clothing directly reflects where and by whom he was raised by.
Body Language & Posture: As varied as his choice of clothing is Haruki's body language. Fortunately for those that get to know him, Haruki proves to be an easy fellow to read.
Haruki displays an uncannily calm and collected aura. Stiff as a board, squared as a brick, the middle aged man seethes confidence with each graceful stride he takes. Rarely will he allow himself to slouch and lean against something, instead opting to remain in the incredibly uncomfortable posture for as long as necessary. This stick-up-ass aura quickly vanishes in the presence of members of the fairer sex and becomes replaced with a much more debonair like demeanor. Visibly his body relaxes and adopts a more alluring posture that appears almost welcoming. With or without the presence of a woman, Haruki maintains constant eye contact with his peers.
When it comes to "his" time, Haruki appears disconnected from the world. His body can be seen slumping into uncomfortable positions and his fluidity vanishes almost entirely. Those brilliant, ever watchful blue eyes dull in hue and drift to the skies above as if they're searching for something. Many have said that if Haruki didn't have a promise to fulfill there'd be nothing holding him to this plane of existence.
Speech Patterns: Velvet. A word often associated with the mortals voice as it possesses a seductive tone that has managed to put physical weight behind each word. Despite lacking a vocabulary shared by many dictionary reading Quincy, Haruki frequently demonstrates his ability to precisely deliver his speeches without the use of overly flowery words.
Aroma:With each puff of air that blows through the raven silk strands of Haruki's hair follows the scent of plums. Sweet and intoxicating, this aroma is often the first sign of his arrival.
Reiatsu: Haruki's Reiatsu paints perfectly the image of his pride; The Quincy. When unleashed his Reiatsu seems to cleanse away the impurities littering their world and dozens of blue-lit crosses float around him in steady vigil.
It's often assumed a man raised in the peaceful environment of a temple would embody the traits normally associated with such a place. They'd be peace-loving, devoted worshippers of this God or Goddess or particular faith carving out a modest living in the world. They'd be the wise men and women living outside the norm, seen as caregivers and mediators.
Haruki simply didn't come from this sort of place. The four walls and roof over his head would have barely qualified as a kennel, let alone a dwelling for humans. The men and women that watched over him weren't the peace-loving hippy sort either. They were a hardy and often rowdy bunch that took pride in their heritage and celebrated it with bloodshed.
And it was this sort of place that molded Haruki into the man he is today. While nowhere near as rambuctious as many others from the temple he grew up in, people raised in a more normal or common environment would definitely find him a bit different. He finds enjoyment, immense amounts of it, in the simplest of things. He's undoubtedly happier than most, evident by the gleam in his eye and almost ever present smile on his face.
Simplicity is his game. Nothing beats eking out a simple living; simple Quincy living, that is. His ideal day involves eating a hearty breakfast, followed by several long hours of training or hunting--doesn't matter the prey--and then sharing stories with other Quincy while enjoying a nice cold beer or piping hot cup of camomile tea. He finds it disheartening that so many of his kind don't act this way, and has taken it upon himself to show them the benefits of such a pleasantly simple way of living.
Honor. A trait from a bygone era, forgotten by most and misunderstood by the rest. Haruki finds himself fortunate in that his people praise the honorable, and as a result actively practice and embody the ideals of what it means to be such a person. While no less merciless than other Quincy, Haruki operates under strict code of honor and adheres to it at all costs. Unfortunately this honor, along with his many natural and trained talents, has left him with a bit of an inflated ego.
Ah, fighting. Coming to fisticuffs. Crossing-blades. Haruki loves working up a good sweat when pitting himself against another. Like most everyone from his merry band of Quincy, Haruki goes out of his way to ensure he gets at least a fight a day. However he finds no enjoyment of going into a fight he knows he can win, and will instead do his damnedest to bring himself down to his opponents level.
- Shamisen: Anything musical in nature is bound to draw Haruki's attention but nothing has done it in quite the same way the shamisen has. Upon hearing the first pluck of the very first note, Haruki immediately fell in-love with the instrument and has since used its melody as a means to express his feelings and entertain the small population of Aogashima.
Cooking: Nothing tastes better than eating a meal prepared by yourself for yourself. Except eating a meal prepared by yourself for others. Really there's just nothing better than cooking and eating. Except maybe...
Physical Combat: Be it sparring or putting his life on the line, nothing gets Haruki's blood pumping quite like going head-to-head against another individual. He often suggests friendly combat to settle the most simple of decisions.
Special Skills & Combat Aptitude
- Battōjutsu: Haruki possess above average skills with a blade. Haruki, however, has never been one to settle for anything and as a result has poured more time in practicing his Battōjutsu than anything else.
Shukuchi: The Tsutsugami's unique method of Hoho, this variant produces similar effects to other High Speed Movements. Through a combination of sheer leg strength and Reiatsu control, a practitioner is capable of producing large bursts of speed.
Baguazhang: The preferred hand to hand style of the Tsutsugami, Ukemi-ken focuses on delivering deadly blows through the tips of fingers and palms of the hands. While no-where near the best in this style, Haruki possesses sufficient knowledge in the form to handle his own.
Shuntensatsu: A combat method designed specifically by Haruki by blending his proficiency in battojutsu and shukuchi. The strength of Shuntensatsu resides in the power and precision of the sword strike during the burst in speed provided by Shukuchi.
Goals & Achievements
Haruki has but two goals in mind.
- Integrate himself into the Quincy Order.
- Solidify the Quincy's place as the superior force in the spiritual world.
Among Haruki's clan resides a tradition, one carried out since the first of their kind established the beginnings of their line. When a comrade meets their end in battle, the one closest to them inherits their cross and with it their will. Because of this, other Quincy might find it particularly difficult to determine which of the eight crosses he carries is actually his. He does, however, have a single cross that has been his since birth. Haruki's cross was his mothers, her first and final gift to him on the very first day of his life. A traditionalist at heart, she carried a five-pointed star with a different rare gemstone embedded in each corner.
Rather than carry such a precious object around his wrist, left to dangle and potentially be lost, Haruki instead has wrapped it tightly around the hilt of his sword. There his hand can envelop it and his fingers can glide across its somehow calming surface anytime he draws his sword; which is pretty often.
In times of yore Quincy were known for their use of bows and other ranged weaponry. No doubt in that time these weapons proved effecient enough to provide their owners with whatever desired effect they were after. This tradition has mostly been kept in place even to this day, with only a handful of Quincy producing spirit weapons that break that mold.
Haruki, and his clan as a whole, are most definitely a part of that handful. Instead of a bow, or any other ranged implement, Haruki's spirit weapon takes on the form of weighted vambraces and grieves made entirely of dark purple spiritual particles. While the bulk of these particles are concentrated in these locations, a thin semi-transparent film coats the rest of his body like a second skin.
Haruki possesses the ability to manipulate the gravity directly affecting his person or things he is in physical contact with.
